I'm Done!

This week at work was one of the worst weeks of my entire 15-year stint at the Hellhole. Thursday wasn't so bad but Friday & Saturday they had a big sale in shoes, buy one get one for $1.00. Corporate sent a memo out that at least two people should be scheduled in the shoe dept for this sale. Do you think my store scheduled another person? Hell no. To make matters worse, I was also scheduled as rapid responder (fill-in cashier) on Friday. So any time it got busy up front, I had to go run a lane. Four cashiers quit this week so they were short-handed. Why this is my problem is beyond me.

In the meantime, the customers are tearing the shoe dept apart. Papers, shoes and boxes all over the floor and I'm up running a lane with no one in shoes to try to keep on top of the mess. And even more disgusting is the fact that a co-worker who usually does women's stock was off. No one was scheduled to replace her which means those of us who were there had to do her stock also. There was so much women's stock that we ended up in overtime because now, we can't leave until the stock is done. It doesn't matter if you spend most of your shift on a lane...the stock has to be done before we can go.

Then comes Saturday. Oh. My. Word. I thought Friday was bad but Saturday took the cake. I go in at 6AM and there's a list of chores we have to do before we can even begin working stock. By the time the list is taken care of, the customers have already started coming in looking for shoes. They are everywhere and I have shoe stock to put out. Only problem is, I can't put it out because there's people in the way. So I stand there and wait, and wait...and wait. They are everywhere and they're tearing my dept apart!

It was worse than Christmas!

Of course, once again we didn't get the stock done by quitting time, so we had to work overtime to get it done. I felt like I had been beaten and battered for 9 hours straight. By the time I got home I could barely move. And I had to go back again Sunday morning to do it all over again.

Even though I was exhausted, I could not sleep Saturday night. All I could think of was how much I hate that place, the work, the customers, the managers and most of all the Meijer sons for being such greedy bastards. They expect us to do the work of three people because they're too cheap to hire enough help. I hate everything about it.

I thought, do I want to put myself through this anymore? Do I have to? The answer to both questions was a resounding "NO!"

That's when I made the decision. I'm done with it. No more. It gave me some peace and I finally fell asleep.

Sunday was a bit easier but I think it's because I knew I only had 3 days left to deal with that place. I can handle 3 days but I can't handle another 6 or 7 weeks. I just can't do it anymore.

We still had to work overtime but the stupid buy one get one for $1.00 sale was over, thank goodness. My manager didn't come in until just before I left. I punched out then told her Friday the 15th will be my last day. She was shocked but completely understood when I said, "I just want to be happy and this place doesn't make me happy."
