Cooper's Hawk

The saga of trying to get a good shot of my neighborhood hawk continues...there is some improvement but I must keep trying.

This morning I saw this guy land in the tree just a few feet above the bird feeders, scaring off all my feathered friends in the process. My excitement almost took over but I remained calm enough to grab my camera which was just a few feet away on the table. But, by the time I turned it on and got it focused, that ornery cus took off.

I ran outside and watched as he landed in a tree about 300' away. He sat there only long enough for me to get this image of him.

Ever since I can remember, I have loved kitties. There's only been one time in my life that I didn't have at least one cat as a member of the family.

I have a tabby named Gary. He came to live with me in 2002 just before Thanksgiving. He's a sweetheart and the best cat in the world.

I was also adopted by a huge tom-cat whom my son named Schteve. He began coming around the yard in April of 2011 and continued to hang out nearly everyday. Finally, he decided he liked it here and made himself at home. Unfortunately, Schteve disappeared on December 16th, 2014.

When my son was little we adopted an all-white male kitty from the Animal Shelter. His name was Dipstick. He was quite a character and a member of the family for nearly 20 years.

Unfortunately, old age took it's toll and he left us on 08-07-06. I missed him so much that I made a memorial page for him:
