I just checked the bluebird house and discovered one tiny, little egg. I'm gonna be a grandma!
The female will lay one egg per day until she's laid 4-7 eggs. Incubation doesn't begin until the last egg is laid so that they'll hatch at the same time. If the weather continues to be hot, the female may not spend much time on the nest. Incubation usually lasts 12-14 days...then the little darlins will break free!
I'm a bit concerned about raccoons and squirrels climbing up there and getting their grubby little paws on the eggs so I greased the pole with axle grease.
I've also discovered that they like raisins. Well, at least I think they do. I put a few on the roof of the house and one by one, both the male and female, came and took them. I didn't actually see them eating the raisins though. Perhaps they thought it was poo and wanted to get it off their home!
This is so exciting! I hope they make it! Will try to get some pictures to post.
